Ingredients
- 150g/5oz plain flour
- 15g/½oz cocoa powder
- 90g/3½oz butter or margarine
- 50g/2oz sugar
- Smarties
- chocolate spread or icing sugar, mixed with a little water
Method
- Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5.
- Mix the plain flour, cocoa powder, butter or margarine and sugar to a stiff paste in a food processor or blender. Alternatively, rub the butter into the flour, then add the remaining ingredients and mix to a dough.
- Roll out on a lightly floured surface and cut out 7.5cm/3in rounds. From each round, cut out an inner circle using a knife or a 4cm/1½in cutter.
- Transfer to a greased baking sheet, make a cut through each circle and open out to form horseshoe shapes.
- Bake for 5-6 minutes until springy to the touch.
- Leave to cool slightly, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Decorate with Smarties, securing with chocolate spread or icing sugar mixed with a little water.
