French Batons

Ingredients

  •   French loaves, split lengthways
  •   butter or margarine
  •   crisp lettuce leaves
  •   favourite fillings such as pâté, ham, tongue, cheese, tuna, sardines, scrambled eggs, tomatoes

Method

  1. Split French loaves lengthways.
  2. Spread with butter or margarine.
  3. Add a layer of crisp lettuce leaves, then your favourite foods such as pâté, ham, tongue, cheese, tuna, sardines, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, etc.
  4. Press and tie together to show a riot of colour through the filling, or wrap each half separately in greaseproof paper.
  5. Wrap in cling film or foil to carry, then cut into thick chunks. Alternatively, make up separate parcels for each child.
