Ingredients
- 1kg braising steak, cubed
- 25g/1oz seasoned flour
- 60ml/4 tbs. oil
- 6 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 600ml/1 pint dark beer
- 15ml/1 tbs. brown sugar
Method
- Coat the steak cubes with the seasoned flour.
- Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the steak cubes, in batches, and brown on all sides. Remove the steak cubes from the pan as they brown.
- Add the onions and garlic to the pan and fry gently until softened. Add more oil if necessary.
- Return the steak cubes to the pan and stir in the beer and sugar. Bring to the boil, then cover and simmer for 1½ hours.
- Remove the lid and continue simmering for 30 minutes or until the steak cubes are tender. Serve hot.
