Pork Steaks with Apple and Cider

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 pork steaks, about 175g/6oz each
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 apples, cored and sliced
  • 300ml/½ pint vegetable stock
  • 12 fresh sage leaves
  • 6 tbsp dry cider
  •   seasoning

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the steaks until browned on both sides. Add the onions to the pan and cook until pale and golden. Transfer the steaks to a shallow, ovenproof casserole.
  2. Add the apples, stock, sage, cider and seasoning to the onion in the pan and bring to the boil. Pour over steaks and bake for 20 minutes, basting occasionally. Serve with new potatoes.
