Gratin Dauphinois

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2lb potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 12oz cheddar cheese, grated
  •   salt and pepper
  • 1 large can Nestlé Ideal Milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C, 375°F, Gas Mark 5.
  2. Grease an ovenproof casserole dish.
  3. Cover the base of the casserole with a layer of overlapping potato and onion slices. Sprinkle with some cheese, seasoning and one quarter of the Ideal Milk.
  4. Continue layering until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese. Pour over the remaining Ideal Milk.
  5. Cover and bake for 1½ hours.
  6. Brown the top under a hot grill for 5 minutes.

Notes

Serve as a supper dish with salad or as an accompaniment to meat.
