Making Croutons

Ingredients

  • 2-3 slices day-old white bread, crusts discarded, cut into ½in (1-2cm) cubes
  • a dash oil, for frying
  • knob butter, optional

Method

  1. Discard the bread crusts, then cut the bread into ½in (1-2cm) cubes.
  2. Heat a dash of oil in a frying pan with the butter (if using) until it foams.
  3. Add the bread cubes and toss over a high heat for about 2 minutes until crisp and golden.
  4. Drain on kitchen paper, then serve.
