Red Hot Chilli Turkey Burgers

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 500g turkey mince
  • 200g can kidney beans
  • 4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  •   salt and pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  •   lettuce leaves
  •   tomato, sliced
  •   Greek yogurt

Method

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and cook the onion for 5 minutes until it is beginning to brown. Add the garlic, chilli powder, mixed herbs and cumin to the pan and fry for a further 2 minutes. Remove from heat and leave to cool completely.
  2. Place the turkey mince, kidney beans and ketchup in a large bowl. Stir in the cooled onion mixture and mix well, using your hands. Divide into four and shape into balls, then flatten into burgers.
  3. If you are grilling the burgers, preheat the grill, place them on a grill rack and cook for 15 minutes, turning halfway through. Or, barbecue until cooked through. Serve in a burger bun filled with lettuce, tomato slices and a spoonful of Greek yogurt.

Notes

If you don't have a barbecue, you can cook these burgers under a preheated grill. Serve in a burger bun filled with lettuce, tomato slices and a spoonful of Greek yogurt.
