Ingredients
- 1 x 600g pkt Safeway Frozen Oven Chips
- 200g (7oz) self-raising flour
- 300ml (½pt) lager
- sunflower oil, for deep-frying
- 4 x 150g chunky skinless boneless cod fillets
- 300g (11oz) frozen mushy peas
Method
- Cook oven chips according to packet instructions. Meanwhile, mix flour and lager to make a batter (it doesn't matter if there are a few lumps).
- Fill a medium pan one-third full with sunflower oil and put over a medium heat until a 1cm (½in) cube of bread turns brown in 30 seconds.
- Dip cod fillets in batter. Fry cod in 2 batches for 5 mins until golden and opaque throughout. Meanwhile, heat peas in a pan for 5 mins. Remove fish from oil, drain, and season with salt. Serve with chips and mushy peas.
