Ingredients
- 1 lb cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 3/4 lb onions, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 lb back bacon, trimmed and chopped
- seasoning
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- 6 oz shortcrust pastry
- beaten egg
Method
- Peel, core and slice the apples. Peel and slice the onions. Trim and chop the bacon.
- Layer the apple, onion and bacon in a 1½-pint pie dish, seasoning between the layers. Add hot water.
- Roll out pastry on a lightly floured board and use to cover the pie. Brush with beaten egg.
- Bake in a moderately hot oven (375°F / Gas Mark 5) for 40-50 minutes until cooked through and golden brown.
