Scones

Serves 12 scones Cook 15 min

Ingredients

  • 8 oz plain flour
  • 2 heaped teasps. baking powder
  • ½ teasp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 oz caster sugar
  • 2 ozs butter or margarine, cut into cubes
  •   milk
  •   egg, beaten, for glazing

Method

  1. Put flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and butter into mixing bowl. Turn to medium speed until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  2. Mix to a soft dough with milk or egg and milk.
  3. Turn onto a floured board. Roll out to ¾" thickness and cut into rounds.
  4. Place on baking tray. Brush over with beaten egg and milk.
  5. Bake at 475°F (Gas 8) for approximately 15 minutes.

Notes

Egg is optional. Can mix with milk only or egg and milk.
