Hot Fruit Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, large
  • 2 firm pears, firm
  • 2 large unwaxed oranges, large
  • 2 bananas
  • 100g/4oz seedless grapes
  • 175g/6oz soft brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground allspice
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Wash all the fruit, except the bananas. Core the apples and pears without peeling and divide each one into 12 pieces. Cut the oranges in half, remove any pips and slice each half (with the skin still intact) into six sections.
  2. Peel the bananas and cut into 1-2cm/½-¾in pieces. Mix all of the chopped fruit together and add the grapes, then place in a large, shallow dish. Sprinkle over the sugar and spices.
  3. Bake for 1 hour, turning the fruit over once halfway through cooking. Remove the dish from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
