Ingredients

  • 3 ozs butter
  • 3 ozs golden syrup
  • 1½ ozs plain flour
  • 1½ ozs almonds, chopped or flaked
  • 1½ ozs hazelnuts, crushed
  • ¾ ozs glacé cherries
  • 1 oz mixed peel, or grated orange rind
  •   melted chocolate, dark, milk or white

Method

  1. Put 3 ozs butter and 3 ozs golden syrup in a pan, melt then boil together for 2–3 minutes.
  2. Keep on a low heat and add 1½ ozs plain flour, 1½ ozs chopped almonds (or flaked), 1½ ozs hazelnuts – crushed, ¾ ozs glacé cherries, 1 oz mixed peel (or grated orange rind). Stir over a low heat until mixed thoroughly.
  3. Pat tablespoonfuls of the mixture on greaseproof paper, spread out a little bit, on oven trays.
  4. Bake 8–10 mins in oven gas 4 (180°C).
  5. Let them cool, then brush on the underside with melted chocolate – dark, milk or white.

Notes

Chocolate for brushing underside can be dark, milk or white.
