Kofta Burgers

Serves 4 as a starter Cook 10 min

Ingredients

  • 350g/12oz minced lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 25g/1oz wholemeal breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 25g/1oz butter

Method

  1. Put the mince, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, spices, garlic salt and parsley in a food processor or blender and whizz until well combined. Divide the mixture into eight balls and mould these into burger-shaped patties.
  2. Heat the oil in a frying pan and add the butter. When the butter has melted, fry the patties for about 5 minutes on each side until well browned. Serve at once.

Notes

These mildly spiced patties make a perfect first course; or serve them for supper with chutney, chapattis and a raita salad.
