Sugar Star Cookies

Serves about 18 Cook 10 min

Ingredients

  • 4 oz butter or margarine
  • 4 oz caster sugar
  • a few drops vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 oz self raising flour
  • pinch salt
  • 1 level teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • a few glacé cherries, for decoration, cut into small pieces

Method

  1. Cream the butter or margarine with the caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add vanilla essence and egg and beat well.
  3. Sieve flour, salt and cinnamon together then gradually stir into the creamed mixture until well blended.
  4. Put the mixture into a forcing bag fitted with a large star piping tube. Pipe on to a greased baking sheet.
  5. Decorate the top of each cookie with a small piece of glacé cherry.
  6. Bake on shelf above centre in a hot oven (425°F / Gas Mark 7) for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
